After years of working in and around the floral industry Doug opened his first flower shop in 1982. He continually pursued his styling skills and expertise by participating in design competitions - winning Teleflora's DC-MD-VA unit Capital Cup Contest.
He became an FTD Master Designer and in 1989 was inducted into the prestigious American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD). In 1995 Doug made a most surprising move. After achieving success as an AIFD designer and status as business owner he chose to sell his flower shop leaving traditional floristry and moving into freelancing - styling for other flower shops and floral businesses.

Being told what, how, and when to design is very restrictive for an artist but Doug was not only able to adapt to styling for others he also accomplished winning the trust of store owners - becoming a valuable resource to them as a project manager, lead designer, and a team leader in the field.
Most recently Doug has been styling as a freelance contract designer for a flower shop in Southern Maryland and for an event company that produces large parties and weddings in and around Washington, D.C.
