Natural Decorative Accessories

Honeysuckle Coil Vase
The large ginger jar vase is covered with 2-3' sections of a honeysuckle coil. The sections are bound together with Oasis binding wire in natural color. The honeysuckle vine acts as an armature to hold the flower stems in place. I used tall ornamental grasses, castor oil bean pods, hydrangea, coleus, and Japanese maple.

These honeysuckle coils and vases were procured at Sieck Wholesale Florist for the District 2 Federated Garden Club 2009 Fall Show. Visit www.sieck.com for more information.

Preserving Your Garden Hydrangea
Fall is the right time to do this. Fill a bucket with 1 inch water, cut stems so heads rest on bucket rim. When the water disappears, the heads will be dried. The dried heads can be tinted, colored, gilded, or airbrushed with Design Master spray tools and used for fall designs, in centerpieces, wreaths, and even tucked into Christmas trees as fillers.

For spray tool ideas and product availability like the samples Design Master sent us for the show visit their site www.dmcolor.com.

Fall Ribbon Cone
What an easy way to use up scraps of ribbon and silk leaves. Cover a Styrofoam cone with #9 ribbons (I used 6 different ones). Pin ribbons to cone. With decorative pins, hold the copper Oasis metallic and bullion wire in place. We wrapped decorative wires sent from Smithers Oasis for our show around pins and added silk leaves and flower heads under the wire. You can also add strings of beads and yarn.

Add fresh flowers with an Oasis "iglu" holder. These can hang from the door, a wreath, or a garland. For decorative wires, "iglus", and more design ideas go to www.smithersoasis.com.

Twig and Bark Cylinders Rustic
Start with several sizes of cylinders. Bind birch branches and bark of sycamore at top and bottom of vase with Oasis brown rustic wire. Dye water with liquid food coloring from cake decorating store in caramel color which works well with the rustic combination. Attach clear water tubes under the bark strips or anchor with wire and fill with fall clematis. Add a floating candle for ambiance.

This creates a decorative container that can be used over and over again. For more ideas with oasis products, go to www.smithersoasis.com. Be sure to check Doug's site frequently for new natural seasonal floral decorating tricks, tips, and techniques.
