Coneflowers, Grasses and.....

I finally can begin to add new posts. We upgraded our internet server and it would not allow me to do anything with the blog! I couldn’t add, delete, change or do anything. But now I can!!!

I have just taken some photos of my flower garden and I thought I would share them.

This is an overview of garden. This is a mix of different flowers, colors, textures etc.

The garden has wildflowers, grasses, tropicals, roses, hydrangeas, butterfly bushes,

and. These are some of the tropicals that are winter hardy.Passion vine, banana and mango in the compost pile!

Crossroads of Hughesville Garden Club Plant Sale

The Hughesville Garden Club will hold a plant Sale on Saturday May 14th from 8am-1pm. It will be held at the Herbert Farm on the south bound lane on Rt 5 across from Randy’s Ribs, just before the exit for Harley Davidson. There will be annuals, perennials, herbs, small trees, and much, much, more to choose from. Join us there and embellish your own garden with these wonderful selections.

Recently I attended the So.AIFD Conference in Charlottesville ,Va.(American Insitute of Floral Designers),

and helped put together the centerpieces for the IFDA luncheon.

IFDA Orchid plant centerpiece

This centerpiece was made by filling a clear glass vase with polymer gel cubes,removing all the soil from the roots of the orchid plant,making an armature of 3 black branches wired to the vase to support the bare rooted orchid plant. The plant is put on top of the gel cubes which are moist,but not floating in water. the branches support the orchid plant nicely and will grow with the roots mostly covered with the gel cubes for many months.You just mist the orchid plant and roots(not filling the vase with water above the root level).The vases were placed on a small black framed mirror to reflect the light.

Potomac Floral Wholesale Show

Potomac Floral Wholesale recently held a Flower Show at their warehouse in Silver Spring ,MD. I was lucky enough to help the designer, Jerome Raska,AIFD,PFCI. Some of the show designs I helped with follow.

This is a large urn design of all Japanese imported flowers. Check out the beatuiful sweet peas, ranuculas,cabbage roses, gloriosa lilies in red and yellows.

A larg colorful rectangular table design suitable for a childs party. Large vases filled with colorful deco beads, an armature above the vases made of misuckia tha's flocked in bright colors of orang, purples and greens,silver dollar euc is dyed with the same bright colors with flowers of the same colors, including spray orchids, gloriosa lilies, ranuculas and gold bear grass. the table had small vases of monoflral designs.

This eco-friendly table of green plants, cut foliages and succulents,and cylinder with foliage tratments with floating candles.

Large vintage urn with grouping of foliages and bunches of curly willow.

Another spring urn of white floral on an oasis wreath form,with the center of the urn filled with bunches of fresh pussy willow.

all white groupings, and floating candles complete the look.

This large design sets atop a tall iron stand in the center of the table. the base of the design are Harry Lauder's branches, based with pale lavender hydrangea, roses and dusty miller foliage. The table covering was mauvey purple. Chrystal were suspended from the branches down to the table below.

These were the base designs repeating the same color palette and flowers. The flocked grey branches covered the iron stand.

Entrance Topiary made with mossed cone, fushia pink roses,carnations and whimsical wired top.

Radial Stand design on mossed plant stand, belles of Ireland,greenery, roses grouped and trachillium in prple groupings

Woven dics with various yarns with naturally drying flowers of heather, hydrangea, and twigs on moss covered stand, to be used as wall decor after the party.

Moss wall framed collages ,made with sheet mosses, moss stones, pods, black stone paths.

Tall Stand design for foyer/entrance with belles of Ireland, tulips, roses and other spring flowers. The stand is covered with curly willow, bittersweet, and coco fibers.

These are the 4 blue ribbons we won with the display for Bergerone's Flowers and Events.

The floral table with a mountain larel tree with hanging votive candles. The votives were all battery operated. the tree was about 8ft. above the table to be a focal point of the party.

Natural weaving of bamboo,beads, burlap, dried leaves and aluminum wire, woven on landscape fencing. This weaving can be a decorative wall piece after the party.

A ribbon wall hanging with Harry Lauder's Branches and fresh osage oranges. Many types of ribbond are woven on landscape fencing. The oranges are suspended by aluminum wires.
